La idea original con la saga Aesir-Vanir era escribir los libros en inglés. Pero como soy muy vago, los escribí en español. Ahora los estoy traduciendo, pero como soy muy vago voy a una velocidad extremadamente lenta. Pero poco a poco lo iré consiguiendo, con voluntad y azotándome con el látigo.
Este fragmento forma parte de la versión en inglés, y de un momento que considero muy querido para mí, el momento en el que Pavlov y Sandra se conocen por primera vez, en un viejo tugurio de un bar al norte de San Francisco, no muy lejos del parque del Golden Gate. Sandra es todavía muy básica en su comportamiento, no tiene la experiencia que luego la llevará a desarrollarse de una forma mucho más amplia en novelas como «Las entrañas de Nidavellir».
En esta escena, Pavlov está esperando a un informador, que podría proveerle con datos importantes sobre la misión que le han encomendado. Ella llega al bar, ya que le han asignado a Pavlov como compañero. Enseguida surgirán las disputas entre ambos, por sus alejadas percepciones de cómo gestionar sus respectivos trabajos de investigación. Pronto, sin embargo, comenzarán a entender que pueden trabajar formando un gran equipo…
Pavlov stared at her.
«So you’re…» She looked at him after she rushed the second whiskey.
«Yes, I’m Sandra. At least, Sandra’s physical part, along with my complement, the drone.”
«Certainly, a very physical part,» Pavlov said.

«No!» Pavlov cut dryly. “No, thanks, if I have a problem I’ll solve it myself, I don’t need a machine to solve my life… But what the hell am I talking about with this mechanical thing?“ Pavlov wondered looking at the beer bottle and checking that it was empty.
«As you wish. If you change your mind, let me know. But, as I was saying, we have to get back to work.”
